What to do…?

The death of a loved one is a difficult event, which may lead to feelings of confusion an helplessness. Most people need help and support during this difficult time. Here you will find step-by-step instructions regarding the paperwork necessary when a loved one passes.

…when a loved one passes away?

1. Call an ambulance or family doctor to confirm the death.

When a loved one passes, call an ambulance (tel. 112) or family doctor to confirm the death. The ambulance will confirm the death and give a certificate with their findings (these days many ambulance brigades already use a digital system, whereby information is sent directly to the family doctor, and no papers are left to the relatives). When the deceased died at a hospital, they will provide the medical death certificate (and the family doctor step can be skipped).

2. Order transportation to the morgue

Tallinna Krematoorium offers 24-hour transport from all over Estonia. Please call 623 8808 and we will transport the deceased to our morgue.

3. Register the death

Take the certificate provided by the ambulance and go see your family doctor, who will register the death and print a death certificate. If the ambulance used a digital system, then the family doctor will see it in their system. This will take about 10-15 minutes. The deceased can not be cremated or buried before the death is registered.

4. Arrange the details of the funeral

The details of the funeral can be arranged on our website or if you prefer, come to our office at Pärnamäe tee 36. If you have any questions regarding any of the procedures, please call us at 623 8808 or write to tallinn@krematoorium.ee.
